Tiempo al tiempo | Taking Time
group show
october19, 2007 - february 17, 2008

5th anniversary of the MARCO

With this as its leit motiv, TAKING TIME looks at the different meanings attached to the notion of time and to the diverse reflections on the subject that have shaped Western thought in such fields of knowledge as physics, literature, mathematics, and the arts. Through the ages artists and thinkers have sought to reflect their experiences of the passage of time in myriad visions, images, symbols and metaphors. Such a diversity of expressions, registers, languages, and sources is proof that our appreciation of time operates on many levels and will always be universal and inseparable from the human condition and artistic practice. Some works take as their starting point instruments and devices for measuring or organising time, its physical dimension; others reflect on the ebb and flow of time, memory and oblivion, on history and the processes of accumulation-sedimentation; and others still address the political dimension of time and the way contemporary societies relate to it, consumed as we are by a sense of urgency that neither responds to any plan nor culminates in anything specific.
